Welcome to Ape Index!

Get Stronger, Fitter, Faster
Fun for all the family

Ape Index is an indoor gym dedicated to Movement Sports.

We primarily offer Bouldering, Ninja Warrior and Obstacle Racing, yet have the scope for training many other disciplines. Bouldering is rock climbing above a crash mat on short routes without the need for harnesses, helmets and ropes.

Facilities
Climbing / Bouldering
Our 200 square metre bouldering wall is 4.5m high and features slabs, overhangs, a roof and sloping walls. We have a state of the art crash mat with a surface you can run on, but is soft underneath to reduce impact. We do not have any roped climbing.

Climbing Training
We have probably the finest climbing training in all the land with our ninja rigs, balance areas, bars, swings and nunchucks galore, but if you're after a more conservative approach, we have fingerboards, a peg board, endurance boards, campus boards, rings and other gymnastic aids.

Obstacle Racing
Not only do we have Aylestone Meadows right on our doorstep where you can run for miles along the trails and paths, but we have around 80 metres of rigs festooned with upper body trials grimmer than a reaper at harvest time. We also have areas of the gym dedicated to balance, jumping, and a large matted area for stretching and exercising.

Kids
We have a kids play area for smaller children up to the age of 6.

Ninja Warrior
Come and get a load of our Ninja Obstacles! Some are so hard they've never been completed. We have an 18ft warped wall (the tallest in the country, but don't worry, there's a rope and a bar at Ninja height), quintuple steps, salmon ladder, pegboard, nunchucks, balance obstacles, spinny things, tipping things, swinging things and falling over things.

Gymnastic Conditioning
We have rings, mats, bars, parallettes, handstand canes, a trampette, vault box and crash mats galore. Please note, we are not a gymnastics centre but use gymnastic conditioning to improve our skills and strength.

Weights
We have a few hand weights, benches, and lifting bars with up to 140kg. Weights are a supplement to our other activities.

General Fitness
We have everything you need, unless you need gimmicks and contraptions to avoid doing any real training.

To see some pictures and descriptions of our areas, please see our About page.

Location
We are in Leicester UK, a short walk from the city centre and railway station.

Ape Index, Unit 55, Faircharm Trading Estate, Evelyn Drive, Leicester. LE3 2BU.
Turn left after the office/cafe when entering the estate. If you go over the river, you've gone too far.

Train
Walking from the train station or from the centre of Leicester takes around 30 minutes.
Car
Head for Leicester, then onto Narborough Road, the A5460. Turn off eastward onto Evesham Road opposite the KFC, then enter Faircharm Trading Estate down Evelyn Drive. Park anywhere, but please leave room for our neighbour in unit 50/50A.
Bike/Foot
There is a cycle track called the Great Central Way which used to be a railway line running from Glen Parva to the city centre. We are located approx 100m away from the path, at the north end of Aylestone Meadows.
Bus
Take any bus which runs south down Narborough Road and leave the bus after it runs under the railway bridge near Sainsbury and Iceland. Turn left down any road and head east. If you are heading north, leave the bus before the railway bridge, opposite the turn to Braunstone Park, where the KFC is.

Please Note
We would like all of our participants and visitors to experience safe, clean and comfortable premises. To achieve this, we ask the following to be taken into consideration when you visit.
No outside shoes on the climbing walls or crash mats, no bare feet on the climbing wall. No climbing shoes on the obstacle courses.
To keep the climbing areas as clean and hygienic as possible, please bring a spare pair of clean shoes, preferably climbing shoes or other flat soled shoes for use on the climbing walls. To keep the obstacle courses clean, please do not use marking shoes such as climbing shoes, and ensure the shoes you are wearing are clean and dry, and preferably not those you use normally if weather is bad.
Nothing on the crash mats.
Anything on the crash mats is an impediment to safe landing. Please leave brushes, water bottles, chalk buckets and yourself at the edge of the mat. Please do not sit on the mats below where people are climbing. The only things left on the mat should be blood, sweat, tears, chalk dust and the fading dreams of magnificence. All will be cleaned up in a timely fashion.
